Jones Farm follows principles of farm scale permaculture design, regenerative agriculture, agroforestry, pasture based livestock enterprises, managing holistically and no-dig market gardening. Jones Farm at Lanett was created with the foremost responsibility to regenerate the ecosystem processes and soils through resilient, replicable, scalable and profitable farm enterprises.
Gary is the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine/Bluefield University's Master of Health Science in Anesthesia program on Auburn's campus. He grew up in a small farming community in central NY, and accompanied his great-grandmother and great-aunt on weekends to the Syracuse farmers market as a child, where they sold their homegrown fruits and vegetables.
His renewed interest in farming and desire to get back to his small town farming roots, after a 25 year career as an anesthetist and medical educator in Atlanta and Houston, inspired him to buy Jones farm in Lanett, and create a small but sustainable permaculture enterprise.
We are actively looking for partners who are looking to create small scale, but scalable and profitable farm enterprises. Some of the possibilities are pasture raised poultry (chicken, turkey, duck, quail) and eggs, pasture raised cows and dairy, goats and sheep, forest raised pigs, no dig market garden, micro greens, mushrooms, orchards and many others.
If you have the know how but not the land, or you are are just wanting to begin your first regenerative enterprise, we have resources to help you build your business!
As we have just begun our farming enterprise, we are a few months away from or first harvest, eggs and our first batch of chickens. Keep checking back for details about our CSA, farmers market, selling locations and stopping by the farm for pickup! Tours and visits are always welcome, we'd love to show you what we do. Please set up an appointment for a visit as the property is gated and secure.
We are conveniently located within 30 minutes from both Columbus and Auburn's campus, at 2333 County Road 187, Lanett, AL 36863
"Good farmers, who take seriously their duties as stewards of Creation and of their land's inheritors, contribute to the welfare of society in more ways than society usually acknowledges, or even knows. These farmers produce valuable goods, of course; but they also conserve soil, they conserve water, they conserve wildlife, they conserve open space, they conserve scenery."
